History
The School of Palau, like the other schools that were built in the Baronia, was constructed around the churches and farm houses to make life easier in the small villages of the territory of the extensive municipality of the Baronia (144 km.2). The church was then synonymous of bringing new inhabitants because the fathers came with their families and their children... The School of Palau had up to 30 students during many years, until 1960.
In 1963-1964, classes stopped because of the scholastic regrouping in Catalunya. Students had to leave the countryside, and the inverse movement started then. The families with their children looked for a new place to live where they could continue attending the classes, and therefore the small villages started to become less populated.
In the year 2000, thanks to a town council initiative, the schools of the municipality were restored in order to be converted into rural accommodation, aiming to maintain the buildings and give life to all the territory of the Baronia. The School of Palau, which the visitors can now rent, was previously the apartment of the school teacher.
